The Friedrichshain park was created from 1846 to 1848 for all berliners, unlike the Tiergarten park, which could be used by the upper-class only.
Three generations later Nazis built high bunkers to offer protection from air-raids, however they served primarily Flak positions. After the collapse of Nazi-Germany the bunkers were blown up in 1946 and the debris of the surrounding boroughs was carried to the park: 2.1 million cubic meters made two hills of 67 and 78 meters.
